Sayings About Treasures

BITS: THE PATH OF A TIME?

Brussels is a region of over a million people (1,048,491 people registered in the records of Civil Status in 2009) and covers about 162 square kilometers. A dimension that can move (in principle) in transit within a reasonable time to go to school, market or the movies. On this basis, it is not foolish to think that moving from one point to another in Brussels does not exceed an hour.

When his valid ticket (take for example one-way ticket), it is valid only 60 minutes. When you "repoint" the ticket to the sixtieth minute, a new journey has begun. In time, it is a transit.

STIB, therefore, will soon enable a new feature in its porticoes: the duty to present his ticket to get out. This does not seem normal, as some will pay a surcharge to exit. Why? Because all trips are for less than or equal to 59 minutes. But is it feasible every time?

Consider two examples:

First example:
STIB provides travelers with a tool on its website that will calculate the route. This service also provides an estimate of the time. The first trip we imagined start of BORDET STATION. The arrival we asked the station is DEBROUX HERMANN (in Auderghem). We imagined a start at 23:50 (on 16 January 2011). First lesson: we calculate a trip of 57 minutes (the arrival is theoretically set at 00:47.
The site briefly describes the course:

Your trip will include 2 match (es) and the cumulative running time will of + / - 8 min. Your journey will take approximately 57 minutes.

CO2 emissions for this flight are 336g. By car, it would be 2211g. (Calculation method).

Go to stop BORDET STATION, located (e) FRANS VAN STREET CUTSEM.

At 23:55, take tram 55 direction ROGIER. At 0:13, stop at ROGIER (18 min.). Walk to stop
ROGIER for correspondence.
Wait 4 minute (s).
At 0:19, take the subway 6 [L] direction Roi Baudouin DELACROIX destination. At 0:22, stop at ARTS-LOI (3 min.).
Walk to the stop ARTS-LOI for correspondence. Wait
9 minute (s).
At 0:32, take the subway 5 [L] HERRMANN-DEBROUX direction. At 0:45, stop at HERRMANN-DEBROUX (13 min.).
walk to the stop-DEBROUX OUDERGEM HERMANN. Arrive at 0:47 (2 min.).

If all goes as planned, so when the gates "liberating" are activated, the traveler will introduce its sesame in the machine (or if the machine MOBIB has a card) and go on. That said, the punctuality of vehicles is not really the forte of the company. With two outs load (the traveler must take the 55, then 6 and finally the metro subway 5) and therefore 3 different transport, it is not surprising that it will be fine. Also note the reference to carbon emissions.

second example

Here we have devised a route that starts from the Military Hospital (in Neder-Over Hembeek) to ERASME (Anderlecht). The site offers a route after a start at 23:24 (January 16, 2011 always):

Your trip will include 2 match (es) and the cumulative running time will of + / - 9 min. Your journey takes approximately 1:18 minutes.

CO2 emissions for this flight are 968g. By car, it would be 3911g. (Calculation method).

at 23:24, take bus 47 towards VILVOORDE VILVORDE STATION STATION destination. At 23:34, stop at VILVORDE STATION (10 min.). Walk to stop
VILVORDE for correspondence.
Allow 7 minute (s).
at 23:44, take the train to Brussels MIDI EXTR. At 23:57, alight at Brussels Central (13 min.). Walk to
CENTRAL STATION stop for correspondence.
Wait 18 minutes (s). At 0:17, take the subway 5 [L] direction Erasme. At 0:37, stop at ERASME (20 min.). Walk to stop
ANDERLECHT ERASMUS. Arrive at 0:42 (5 min.).

Again, we are quite skeptical about the change of gauge (a variegated bus, train and subway - why not?). But mostly about the journey, not less than 78 min
- with arrival at 00:42!

In this case, there will also pay 3 € to be released from station. Or pay at the door on the bus and then again on the subway to the train station.

Is this serious?

And about how to obtain a settlement of the BITS? A ticket is a form of contract - the terms of which are well known to both parties. Unless our error, no trace of such a settlement on the STIB website (to check, for example, the validity of a ticket and what happens in the scenario outlined above).

Is that normal? We will try to get this regulation in another way.
